Digital in 2026: what changed

One Kubernetes edge tool was retired, Kubernetes reached 1.37. Microsoft and Red Hat platforms for digital services: supplied and integrated.

What changed this year for the digital platforms that run on the infrastructure, and what to put in your requirement.¹

Every date comes from the vendor's or publisher's own page. Third-party reports are marked.

1. ingress-nginx is retired

ingress-nginx was retired in March 2026, with no further security fixes. The design moves the edge to Gateway API: v1.5 (February 27, 2026) moved TLSRoute to Standard, and v1.6 (June 30, 2026) added TCPRoute and UDPRoute.

2. Kubernetes 1.37

Kubernetes 1.37 came out on August 26, 2026, so 1.35 to 1.37 are in upstream support. Clusters on 1.34 or older are rejected.

3. Kafka 4.3.0

Apache Kafka 4.3.0 was released on May 22, 2026. The event layer runs Kafka 4.x without ZooKeeper, which was removed in 4.0.

4. Workplace and accessibility

Teams-certified Android 10 and 11 room and phone devices lost certification on September 3, 2026; support ends on September 3, 2027. EN 301 549 v4.1.1 (September 2026) references WCAG 2.2, which the design already requires. Exchange Server 2016 and 2019 stay rejected: their support ended on October 14, 2025.

What this means for a buyer

Every platform in this design is inside its vendor's support today; anything that left support this year has a named replacement.
